Oil boiler courses and qualifications delivered through the Grant UK Training Academy are suitable for oil storage tank and boiler installers, commissioning and service technicians. The Vortex Condensing and Combi Boiler product training courses are intended for both experienced and newly qualified oil installers who are interested in learning more about Grant boilers. The Pressure Jet Oil Burners course is designed for oil commissioning and servicing technicians as well as installers. The OFTEC training and assessment courses covering oil storage and appliance installation, commissioning and servicing are intended for technicians seeking OFTEC registration or re-registration.
Any engineers and installers attending a course at the Grant UK Training Academy must ensure they fulfil any course prerequisites, where applicable – the individual course listings will detail any prerequisite requirements for the course.
As with Grant’s heat pump training courses, the oil-fired boiler training delivered by Grant UK comprises of theory learning and practical, hands-on experience with the products. A typical oil-fired boiler training course will commence in the classroom with theory on the principles of boiler operation, installation and commissioning, before moving to one of Grant UK’s oil boiler training workshops for hands-on work with the boilers, burners and flue systems. OFTEC liquid fuel qualification courses follow the course contents as detailed by OFTEC.
Most course sizes are small with up to 9 places available. Each of the boiler and burner courses are 1 day in length with the OFTEC qualification courses and assessment being between 2-4 days in duration.
Content: For many hard-to-heat, off-grid homes, an oil boiler is often the type of heating system keeping them warm. Furthermore, with field trials proving the successful use of Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil (HVO) biofuels in oil boilers, training remains incredibly popular for engineers and installers working with and maintaining oil-fired boilers. Benefits of this training include:

To be OFTEC registered denotes that an individual is part of the OFTEC competent persons scheme. It provides registration for suitably qualified installers and technicians for technologies including oil-fired boilers, liquid biofuels and renewable heating systems to give a few examples. OFTEC registered individuals must fulfil specific experience and training prerequisites as well as passing the appropriate OFTEC course(s) and assessment and to OFTEC registrations are subject to renewals and refresher training. Read more about OFTEC certification and courses available here.
OFTEC registration is available for technicians and installers who work with oil-fired boilers and heating systems, heat pumps and renewable heating systems, and unvented hot water systems. Different levels of OFTEC certification are available and individuals seeking to apply to become OFTEC registered must fulfil the prerequisites, training and assessments specific to the OFTEC certification. You can read more about how to become OFTEC registered here and please click here to view the range of OFTEC courses available at Grant UK’s Training Academy.
A pressure jet burner is a type of combustion burner where the oil, pressurised by a pump, is forced through an atomising nozzle (or jet),mixed with regulated quantity of air from a fan to produce a combustible mixture that is ignited by a spark to give the flame that provides the heat input to the boiler, which is used in all condensing Grant oil-fired boilers. In the Pressure Jet Oil Burner course provided by the Grant UK Training Academy, engineers can learn more about all of the following burners: Riello G5BF, RDB and RDB GB (blue flame, low NOx) burners and the Ecoflam MAX1 burner.
Yes, gas engineers can attend Grant oil boiler training courses. These courses are suitable for domestic heating installers with all levels of experience, from no previous oil boiler experience through to experienced oil boiler engineers.
This will depend on the course you attend and pass. Installers who successfully complete the Grant Vortex Condensing Boiler course will be eligible to apply to join the G1 Installer Scheme. For engineers who attend and pass an OFTEC boiler qualification course, they will be eligible to apply for OFTEC registration.
