G1 Scheme

Heat Pump Go MCS Umbrella Scheme

Grant UK has partnered with Heat Pump Go to offer this MCS Umbrella Scheme to G1 Installers installing Aerona air source heat pumps in retrofits, renovations and self-build properties.

MCS Accreditation for Grant Heat Pump Installations

MCS (Microgeneration Certification Scheme) sets standards for low carbon technologies and for the companies installing them. To obtain an MCS certificate for heat pump installations, the product fitted and the installation itself must fulfil MCS standards and to meet these requirements, installers either need to be MCS approved or they can partner with MCS Umbrella Schemes, such as Heat Pump Go.

What is Heat Pump Go?

Heat Pump Go is an MCS Umbrella Scheme which is run by Abode Heat Ltd. Grant UK has partnered with this scheme to offer Heat Pump Go to G1 Installers at a discounted price who are not MCS certified themselves but who want to provide their customers with an MCS accredited Grant Aerona heat pump installation. Through this partnership, Abode Heat will support installers with the design of an MCS compliant heat pump system and Grant UK will not only provide a quote for the heating products needed, but their in-house Field Service Engineers will complete the MCS compliance commission/customer handover on-site too.

What are the benefits of an MCS Umbrella Scheme?

MCS certified heat pump installations meet the industry standards set by MCS, which provides peace of mind to consumers. MCS approved heat pump installations are also eligible for Government funding, such as the £7,500 voucher payment available through the Boiler Upgrade Scheme as well as grants and loans available through HES funding. By partnering with Heat Pump Go, installers can access this funding for their customers by obtaining MCS sign-off on their Grant heat pump installations without needing to be MCS accredited themselves. Here are some of the benefits of this scheme:

  • Access to £7500 Boiler Upgrade Scheme (BUS) voucher payment
  • Installers can offer their customers MCS accredited heat pump installations
  • Provides installers with administration support
  • Includes room by room heat loss calculation for heat pump specification
  • Includes the DNO application
  • Grant in-house engineer provides support on-site with commissioning and the customer handover

If you are interested in becoming an MCS approved installer, you can read more about MCS, its benefits and how to become a MCS certified installer here.

What is the eligibility criteria?

To access Heat Pump Go through Grant UK, installers must fulfil the pre-requisites which are outlined below:

  • Be a G1 Heat Pump Installer (please view the requirements for G1 Heat Pump Installer eligibility here)
  • Hold a Level 2/3 Plumbing & Heating Qualification or City & Guilds Qualification
  • Hold a WRAS Qualification and a G3 Unvented Hot Water Qualification (Grant UK’s Training Academy deliver ERS Qualifications – view ERS courses here)
  • Hold a Level 3 Heat Pump Design Qualification – this is desirable but not essential

Please note, Grant UK’s partnership with the Heat Pump Go MCS Umbrella Scheme is only open to Aerona³ and Aerona 290 heat pump installations which are being fitted as part of a retrofit installation or self-build installation (new build developments are excluded).

How does Heat Pump Go work?

Through Heat Pump Go, installers work collaboratively with Abode Heat and Grant UK throughout the installation as outlined below:
Step 1: Installer must fulfil the requirements criteria as outlined above, complete the Heat Pump Go partner registration form and supply any project documentation required.
Step 2: Installer provides suitable site survey information of existing property, or full plans/SAP for the self-build/renovation project, for Heat Pump Go to complete formal room by room heat loss calculation.
Step 3: Grant UK provide a product quotation including Grant heat pump, emitters and cylinder
Step 4: Heat Pump Go provide service quotation for the installer to accept. The Installer is invoiced by Abode Heat Ltd for the Heat Pump Go fees. Grant will also invoice the installer separately for the commissioning and handover service.
Step 5: Heat Pump Go issue pre-installation form to the installer for completion on site. This will enable the DNO approval and sound calculation confirming permitted development planning rights to be confirmed prior to installation. Heat Pump Go issues MCS engagement letter to homeowner.
Step 6: Installer arranges commissioning with Grant and installs heat pump.
Step 7: One of Grant UK’s Field Service Engineers visits site for the commissioning and customer handover, and completes the post installation MCS commissioning form issued by Heat Pump Go on behalf of the installer.
Step 8: BUS voucher application is submitted (Scheme T&Cs apply). Heat Pump Go compile the MCS handover pack for the installer to issue to the end customer.
Step 9: BUS voucher payment is paid in full to the homeowner.
