This OFTEC course is intended for heating engineers and technicians who will be installing, commissioning and servicing air source heat pumps (non-refrigerant circuits).
This OFTEC training explores the key elements involved in a heat pump installation as well as commissioning, servicing, and maintaining air source heat pump units. The course will cover the health and safety, the latest regional legislation and requirements, safe electrical isolation, factors to consider before and during installation, fill and flushing requirements, appliance installation, soundness tests, operation checks and procedures, fault-finding identifying unsafe situations, and practical commissioning and servicing.
The assessment is completed via multiple choice theory papers, practically assessed worksheets and practical hands-on assessment.

Pre-requisites:
Applicants must hold a nationally recognised qualification and/or registration in a trade associated with heating and/or plumbing. Candidates must provide evidence of relevant qualifications and/or registration to support entry.
Or
Must provide written evidence confirming that they have ‘on the job’ heating installation and/or maintenance experience for a period of not less than two years, and evidence of ongoing continual professional development. The evidence shall be in writing from the employer detailing precisely the type, range and volume of work carried out.
And
Hold current and valid Water Regulations certificate.
Hold current and valid Unvented Hot Water certificate.
This qualification would enable the holder to apply for OFTEC registration and for MCS certification for work under the scope of MIS 3005-I (The Heat Pump Standard- Installation).
Learners wishing to design installations under the scope of MIS 3005-D (The Heat Pump Standard – Design) would need to undertake further training completing the Design of Heat Pump systems qualification.
