New episode of Grant UK’s Net Zero Heating Show now available!

  |

Grant UK has released a new episode of its Net Zero Heating Show podcast which explores how installing heat pumps in installers’ homes can support the uptake of this low-carbon heating technology, with a focus on Nesta’s Start at Home initiative and Grant UK’s Start with Grant scheme.

The new episode, called ‘Start with Grant – heat pumps in installers’ homes’, is hosted by Anna Wakefield, Head of Internal Sales and Marketing at Grant UK. Anna is joined by Shaan Jindal, Mission Manager at Nesta, and two installers who have been through Grant UK’s Start with Grant scheme – Dave Phillips, Managing Director of D Phillips Plumbing and Heating Ltd based in Peterborough, and Robert Lake, Director of RJL Plumbing & Heating based in Gloucestershire.

Anna, Shaan, Dave and Robert discuss Nesta’s Start at Home pilot, the barriers which are preventing some installers from making the move to heat pumps and how living with an air source heat pump can build installer confidence in this technology. Listeners will learn more about Nesta, what they do and how their Start at Home initiative is supporting installers who are keen to upskill and make the move to heat pumps.

Listeners can also hear from two installers who are now living with a Grant Aerona 290 air source heat pump in their homes. Both Dave Phillips and Robert Lake have completed the Start with Grant scheme, undertaking heat pump training, receiving a fully funded Aerona 290 heat pump heating system and installing it in their home. Dave and Robert share their experiences of installing their first heat pump, what was included in the Start with Grant package, and what is next for their businesses when it comes to working with heat pumps.

“We launched the Start with Grant scheme in Summer 2025 and since then, we have helped many installers start their transition into heat pumps,” comments Anna Wakefield. “In partnership with Nesta, Start with Grant provides eligible installers who are new to working with heat pumps the opportunity to get hands on experience with this technology in their own homes. It is a fantastic initiative and we were delighted to welcome Nesta and two engineers who have experienced the Start with Grant scheme onto our podcast. Shaan, Dave and Robert all shared valuable insight, and we hope listeners enjoy this episode and discover how living with a heat pump can equip installers with the knowledge they need to make the transition to fitting heat pumps in their customers’ homes.”

Shaan Jindal, Sustainable Future Mission Manager at Nesta, said: “This podcast was an excellent opportunity to discuss how Start at Home initiatives like Start with Grant can address the barriers that heating engineers face in actually installing heat pumps for customers after they have completed their training.

“Nesta’s Start at Home initiative brings together companies that help heating engineers build their skills and confidence with installing heat pumps by giving them a funded heat pump and the support to install it in their own home. This allows heating engineers to build their skills and confidence through hands-on experience in a lower-pressure environment, turning their training into experience.

“It was particularly valuable to be joined by Dave and Robert, heating engineers who’d completed a Start with Grant project firsthand, to hear what they got out of installing a heat pump in their own home.”

This latest episode of the Net Zero Heating Show is available to download from Apple Podcasts, Spotify, Buzzsprout and via Grant UK’s website.
