Earlier this month, Julia’s House hosted a Winter Ball where Grant UK was one of the night’s sponsors, joining the fundraising efforts for this local children’s charity.
On Saturday 19th November, Wellington Barn near Calne was the venue for the Lloyds Bank Winter Ball raising money for Julia’s House, a charity which supports seriously ill children in Wiltshire and Dorset who do not have access to the level of care and support that they need. With a champagne reception, four course dinner, auction and live band, the black tie event was a wonderful night of fundraising.
For over thirteen years, Julia’s House has been caring for children with life-limiting or life-threatening illnesses in Dorset. The charity delivers ongoing care for families at home, in the community and in their Dorset hospice providing a vital level of support. In 2014, Julia’s House expanded its award-winning service into Wiltshire with a small team of community nurses and carers and, in Spring 2017, the charity will be opening a new hospice in Devizes, the first of its kind in the county.
The new Wiltshire hospice with have an array of facilities including: a large activity room, sensory and therapy rooms, and a beautiful garden which will be fully accessible to wheelchair users. It will act as a day care centre as well as having three bedrooms for overnight stays. A self-contained, private suite will also be built when end-of-life care is required. The aim for the hospice is to be a second home for families, caring for the child and being there for the family, echoing the charity’s motto.
Building of the hospice in Devizes is already underway but, with the charity receiving less than 5% of their total annual funding from the government, additional funding continues to be raised through a range of activities including the Winter Ball.
With the new hospice being based so close to their Headquarters, it was an instinctive decision for Grant UK to become a headline sponsor at the Winter Ball. In addition to having a table at the event, Grant UK donated prizes for the auction including a round of golf for four people at Bowood Championship Golf Course, two tickets to Bath Rugby Club’s home game at The Rec on 15th December against the Cardiff Blues, and a meal for two at Bowood Hotel’s Shelburne Restaurant.
Over 200 hundred people attended the event with the auction and other activities on the night raising plenty of funds to support the fantastic ongoing work of Julia’s House, providing an invaluable service to the local community.
