FAQs

Can I reduce the carbon emissions from my boiler?

For off-gas properties that use oil, research into the use of low carbon liquid fuels has been on-going for several years, with trials underway testing the use of biofuels in oil boilers. Biofuels are a renewable type of energy made from organic matter and waste materials and they produce significantly less carbon dioxide emissions compared to traditional fossil fuels (up to 88% less).

Biofuel does still have a small carbon footprint so cannot be classified as carbon neutral but it can provide a viable, low carbon alternative to kerosene oil. It can also offer a transition time to the consumer to improve the insulation of their house over a few years.
