Established in 1945, W.J Townsend & Son is a family run business providing domestic customers in Towcester and surrounding areas with a comprehensive range of plumbing and heating services.
The business has been in the family for over 75 years with William John Townsend, founding the company. Andy his son took over 30 years ago and now works with his son Ben. A considerable number of clients have been using their services for in excess of 20 years and rely on for them personal service, support and advice.

Outlined below is one example of the wonderfully diverse properties they work on in their rural location of Northamptonshire and is based around a principle country residence with a number of outbuildings including a stable block, staff accommodation above and a swimming pool annexe. The owners endeavour to be environmentally friendly in all aspects of their life and had already installed a natural water harvesting system in their garden.
The objective of this project was to reduce the large consumption of oil used by the existing heating system.
This property had an expensive to run and inefficient old standard efficiency boiler in the swimming pool pump house, which required replacing. The new boiler installed was a Grant vortex 15-21kW Eco Utility condensing model with an efficiency of 90.8%. The product has a simple casework design, control panel and pipework arrangement which proved easy to install and maintain. Just simply converting to a modern condensing oil boiler will greatly reduce their annual oil consumption.
To further reduce the heating bills a six panel Grant Solar Thermal system was installed to heat the pool, showers and relaxation area. Grant Solar thermal panels are extremely efficient flat plate collectors with an impressive 82.6% efficiency level, and these, coupled with a Grant DuoWave Cylinder and plate heat exchanger, ensure that the pool and hot water demands are fully met.
