The second generation of the Grant EvoLink Hybrid System Hub has arrived – introducing EvoLink Smart. With its more compact size, the EvoLink Smart is designed for use with the intuitive Aerona Smart Controller and facilitates the installation of a Grant Aerona 290 or Aerona³ air source heat pump alongside most existing domestic heating systems.
The new EvoLink Smart Hybrid System Hub provides a solution for incorporating renewable energy into an existing heating system, when a heat pump alone is not feasible. Using the EvoLink Smart, a new Grant air-to-water heat pump can be installed with most types of existing heating systems, including oil, gas, LPG and modulating biomass boilers. Households can benefit from the addition of a heat pump while keeping their existing boiler which serves as a supplementary heat source within the system.
Like its predecessor, the EvoLink Smart is a white cased, wall-mounted unit which is designed to be installed inside the home. However, the new EvoLink Smart is significantly smaller in size, being only 350mm wide, which makes positioning the unit much easier. The EvoLink Smart houses the hydraulics, including a combined mixing tank, flow and return connections, mixing PWM pump and temperature sensors, to enable installers to connect a new Aerona 290 or Aerona³ R32 heat pump to an existing heating system. Compatible with S-plan and Y-plan control systems and sealed systems, the EvoLink Smart can be used with boilers with a space heating output of up to and including 28kW.
In addition to being more compact in size, the EvoLink Smart is designed to be fitted with the Aerona Smart Controller. Together, the Aerona Smart Controller and EvoLink Smart operate the heat pump as the main heat source with the original boiler serving as the additional heat source which is only used when the heat pump alone is unable to fulfil the demand. The compatibility of the EvoLink Smart with the Aerona Smart Controller allows hybrid installations to benefit from the array of intuitive features the Smart Controller offers, helping these systems to operate more effectively and further maximising the heat pump’s usage.
“After previewing this product at selected events throughout the year, we are pleased to add the Grant EvoLink Smart to our product portfolio,” comments Paul Wakefield, Managing Director at Grant UK. “Our first generation EvoLink Hybrid System Hub was an exciting addition to our hybrid range because it allowed an existing fossil fuel heating system to benefit from the addition of a heat pump without needing to make significant changes to the wider heating system. Here at Grant, we never sit still and the hard work of our R&D Teams has resulted in the new EvoLink Smart which now makes this hybrid product even more accessible for homes which are not quite ready for a heat pump alone.
“With the EvoLink Smart, households can install the latest generation of Aerona heat pumps without removing their original boiler, which can remain in place and only be used as and when required. We continue to believe that the goal of reducing carbon emissions in home heating will be achieved by giving customers choice and the development of the EvoLink Smart within our hybrid heating range is further reflection of this. Alongside our award-winning heat pumps and HVO compatible oil boilers, hybrid heating products also have a big part to play in the road to Net Zero.”
