Grant UK Training Academy: 2015 in review

Grant prides itself on developing and manufacturing innovative, reliable and efficient products for the heating market. To support the installers who fit the Grant Vortex, Spira, Aerona and Solar Thermal ranges of technologies, Grant UK also strives to provide the latest product and industry courses at its Training Academy in Devizes. 2015 not only saw many installers once again turn to Grant UK for their product, OFTEC and Logic training, but it also saw the transformation of the Academy’s training rooms as part of a major redevelopment programme.

Grant UK’s Training Academy offers engineers a selection of courses. Oil boiler installers can complete their OFTEC training and assessment, whether they are renewing their registration or not yet OFTEC registered. Product specific courses are also available which provide oil installers with a thorough education on installations, servicing and diagnostics. The three one-day courses (Burner course, Vortex boiler course and Combi boiler course) are specifically structured to suit the requirements of the engineers and installers who attend them. These courses are always in demand and last year all three courses were run on a monthly basis. Due to their increasing popularity, all these courses will be held more frequently throughout 2016.

For installers of renewable technologies, again both industry and product specific courses are available. Grant UK’s Training Academy is a Logic Certification Approved Centre offering a range of their courses. In addition, the Hot Water Systems and Safety (HWSS) and Water Regulations (WRAS) qualifications available at the Training Academy are both popular, particularly for those installers wishing to renew their five year HWSS qualification. They are also prerequisites for the Logic QCF courses.

The product specific courses that Grant UK’s Training Academy delivers are designed to support those installers who wish to gain a greater understanding of Grant’s products. In addition to the Vortex course previously mentioned, there are also Air Source Heat Pump and Solar Thermal courses. Installers wishing to fit Grant’s award-winning Spira biomass range must attend the Grant UK Biomass course. Once an installer has attended this two-day course and passed the assessment, they are allocated a Grant Wood Pellet accreditation number enabling them to install the Spira range. Over 850 installers have attended this course since the Spira was launched at the end of 2011.

The heating industry is constantly shifting to meet the demands of homeowners and changes to legislation. Consequently, new product launches and updates are often taking place and the Grant Training Academy ensures that the latest technologies are on display for the installers stepping through the door. Last year, the training rooms at Grant UK underwent a complete renovation. This project included the installation of new products, informative graphics and flexible displays to create an engaging learning environment for installers. With a large number of training appliances and equipment available in the Academy, ‘hands-on’ training for course attendees can be as part of a small group or on an individual basis (to read more about this renovation, please click here). The changes implemented have been welcomed, with one installer commenting that “the Grant UK Training Academy is set up with training the installer in mind.”

Grant UK’s training is not exclusively available at the Training Academy in Devizes. Product courses are also delivered by Grant at off-site locations such as GTEC’s purpose built training facilities in Hawes, North Yorkshire. With installers located throughout mainland UK, the needs of those based some distance from the South West are consequently also catered for. Delivering these courses, either on or off-site, are Grant UK’s trainers who have a wealth of experience and technical knowledge and whose expertise are constantly praised in the post-course feedback from courses attendees. Please visit the Your Words page to read some of the comments the Academy has received.

2016 is Grant UK’s 20th anniversary so lots of exciting projects will be unveiled throughout the year. Already this year the Training Academy has seen further expansion with the development of a new training room which is specifically fitted with some of Grant’s external renewables products, including a SpiraPod biomass boiler house display.

Grant UK’s first product launch of 2016 has also just been revealed: the VortexBlue oil-fired boiler. This new member of Grant’s oil boiler family combines a revolutionary blue flame burner with the trusted and familiar Vortex boiler. Much interest has already been generated around the VortexBlue with installers enquiring about product training. The new Riello blue flame burner technology will be incorporated into the existing oil boiler product courses held by Grant. A display VortexBlue, with a glass viewing window enabling the blue flame to be clearly visible, will be available to installers who attend the Burner, Vortex and Combi courses at the Training Academy. Furthermore, a series of short videos are currently in production which will offer an introduction to the new burner, advice about commissioning and fault finding, and also a summary of the models within the VortexBlue range. These videos are being developed to provide online assistance to installers in an accessible and easy to follow way.

With new products, updated training facilities and exciting developments in the forthcoming year, Grant UK continues to provide market-leading support to engineers. Since it was established in 2003, Grant UK’s Training Academy has been constantly evolving to ensure that installer needs are met and exceeded. Offering comprehensive training in professional facilities, Grant ensures that their installers are confident and assured, so that the end-user, the homeowner, is both happy and satisfied with their heating system.
