Grant UK supports local Youth Football Tournament

The weekend of the 16th and 17th May was a busy one for some football loving youngsters in Wiltshire. Only a short drive from Grant UK’s headquarters in Devizes, FC Chippenham hosted a leg of its annual Festival of Football last weekend which invites children of all ages (up to 16 years old) to play five-a-side tournaments. Last weekend was the turn of the under-7s’ competition in which six teams played each other, totaling five matches played per team – lots of fun and experience for these young budding footballers!

With a member of our Technical Services Department coaching one of the teams, Grant UK was keen to support this sporting event through financial sponsorship. The incentive behind the tournament was to provide the teams of under-7s with the opportunity to have plenty of game time, building up their experience on the field and feeding their enthusiasm to participate in this much loved sport. Consequently, there were no winners or losers on the day, with all the players returning home with a well-deserved medal.

Grant’s Wayne Eggleton works with a group of ten boys who frequently play games in the local surrounds of Chippenham, playing against teams from Bath through to Devizes. These regular, non-competitive friendly matches are held throughout the football season with the home games being played at Stanley Park, which is where the team trains every Sunday morning.

Wayne’s team, FC Chippenham Youth Madrid, had a great day at the tournament where they won two games, drew two games and only lost one. As mentioned above, no overall winner is declared at these types of tournaments so all of the games, which were eight minutes in length, were played with great spirit and enjoyment by all.

The weather proved to be kind for the tournament and with plenty of football on offer, the event was hit with the participants and spectators alike. Here are a few photos from the day…
