We are looking for a Technical Writer to join our Training and Technical Writing Team. The role of the Technical Writer is an interesting and varied role with the primary responsibility being to support the delivery of all technical manuals and user guides for the UK (England, Scotland, and Wales) markets. The role will work closely with a number of internal stakeholders, including the Training Manager, Technical Manager, Technical Services Department, Marketing Manager, plus a number of departments in our parent company in Ireland.
Main roles and responsibilities:
- The production of high-quality technical literature for print and online publication within existing policy framework (corporate style design guide/s):
o Installation, servicing, and commissioning manuals
o User instructions
o Other instructional documents
- Maintaining and updating technical literature to keep it up to date with product modifications (Design Change Records) and new product introductions
- Liaising with our Head Office and suppliers to obtain:
o Technical information to produce and modify technical literature
o Electrical drawings
o Schematic diagrams
- Liaising with external agencies to produce schematics diagrams and detailed line illustrations
- Maintaining the ‘Issue Management Log’ and ‘Technical Documents List’
- Updating the ‘Revision Control’ spreadsheet when drafting updating revisions to technical manuals
- Production of finished artwork:
o printers (high-resolution PDF)
o online (low-resolution PDF)
- Circulating technical literature to all relevant persons to ensure it is correct
- Producing internal and external ‘Technical Bulletins’ to ensure all product modifications are effectively communicated.
Specific skills and knowledge required:
Essential
- Adobe: InDesign
- Autodesk: AutoCAD
- Microsoft Office: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook
- An awareness of graphic design and the processes involved in print and online publishing
- A clear and concise writing style
- An eye for detail and a thorough and methodical approach
- Good copy-writing skills with the ability to translate technical subjects into user-friendly content
Desirable
- Adobe: Illustrator and Photoshop
- Quadrispace: Publisher 3D
- Knowledge of British Standards, Building Regulation Approved Documents, OFTEC Standards, EU Legislation, MCS Standards and Water Regulations
- General understanding of the technologies involved, i.e., domestic heating and solar thermal design/installation
