Senior IT Technician

In this role, the Senior IT Technician will be responsible for ensuring the availability of IT infrastructure and systems to meet the requirements of a growing sales and distribution business. We are based in a single location with approx. 120 users.

The ideal candidate has a broad spectrum of technical knowledge, good interpersonal skills and experience working with external IT suppliers. They will also need an enthusiastic, adaptable, proactive approach with a positive attitude to change.

Main role and responsibilities: 

  • Work internally across all departments to ensure IT requirements are understood
  • Work with outsourced IT suppliers to ensure delivery of consistent, high-quality services to meet business requirements
  • Complete onsite tasks relating to server and network infrastructure in collaboration with our external IT provider
  • Maintain both cyber and physical security of IT infrastructure working with our external IT provider
  • Maintaining the companies Cyber Essentials+ accreditation
  • Super user administration and support of SaaS business applications e.g., DocuSign
  • Advocate IT best practice across the organisation
  • Daily check of backup system and ensure any alerts or issues are addressed by our external IT provider
  • Daily checks and regular maintenance of CCTV and access control systems with support of external suppliers
  • IT Asset Management: procurement of new hardware and software, lifecycle management, inventory management, and management of IT peripheral stock levels
  • Maintain accurate documentation
  • Management of company mobile telephony devices and monthly monitoring of usage
  • Co-ordination and setup of new user hardware and system access and delivery of IT inductions
  • Monitoring of IT performance
  • Identification of continual service improvement opportunities across the IT landscape
  • Support the IT & Transformation Manager to identify and implement new solutions

Required Technical skills:

  • Microsoft Active Directory Administration: users/ groups, group policies, replication, Azure and M365 integration
  • Network and Firewalls: knowledge of WAN IPsec tunnels, rule administration, upgrades and troubleshooting
  • Server infrastructure: Microsoft Hyper-V Administration, VM creation, backup/ restore procedures
  • Cloud Services: Microsoft 365 core application administration e.g., SharePoint, Exchange, OneDrive
  • Datto backup software management

Experience and skills:

  • Proven, relevant, hands-on experience at a senior technician level
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication and organisation skills
  • Ability to cope under pressure, problem solve, and prioritise work accordingly
  • Experience of supporting users with hybrid working arrangements

Desirable skills:

  • Experience of Sage 200c and add-on applications
  • Experience of Microsoft Dynamics 365
  • Qualification within one of the Microsoft pathways: Core Infrastructure, Productivity or Business Application
  • Cisco CCNA qualification
  • ITIL knowledge
