Renewables make sense, even without government subsidy

Much talk in the heating and renewables industry focuses on the RHI, FiTs and Green Deal. Whether that’s “too” much talk is arguable. But what is indisputable is the fact that –incentive or no incentive – renewables such as biomass boilers and solar thermal systems, are an excellent and reliable way to heat a home.

Grant Spira Condensing Wood Pellet Boiler RangeSometimes the important facts gets lost, unsurprisingly, in the talk over how many pence per kilowatt hour an incentive will give the homeowner. But perhaps it would be better not to lose ourselves entirely in this debate over the coming years. Alongside the vocal support and lobbying for retaining incentives, we should also be highlighting the real benefits of the technology.

Grant is well known for renewable products, such as our condensing biomass boilers, namely the Spira and, coming soon, the Vecta, which push the boundaries of what’s achievable in terms of convenience, noise reduction, energy efficiency and user comfort.

Our G-One installer network often share with us the projects they have installed, featuring biomass appliances and many are simply stunning (read more on our Case Studies page). Of course the homeowner will have benefitted from the Renewable Heat Incentive, but often this is merely the icing on the cake – what they have gained is a sustainable, low cost, high efficiency heat source, which limits vulnerability to energy prices and unpredictable fuel bills.

So let’s not focus entirely on incentives and tariffs. Homeowners and industry still need them to encourage their wider adoption, but as manufacturers and installers, we must not lose focus on the wonderful heating, comfort and energy savings these technologies can offer.
