SCHOOL THINKS GRANT SOLAR IS A BRIGHT IDEA
|
|
Pupils at Balloch Primary School, Inverness are leading the way in the battle against climate change by choosing Grant Solar Thermal for their building.
Members of the eco-school committee wrote to Highland Council for advice on how they could save energy. Following discussions with the pupils, the council’s housing and property service inspected the school and organised the installation of a Grant Solar Thermal water heating system to help save energy and reduce carbon emissions by 684kg each year.
The school is working towards achieving its first Eco-schools Green Flag, which it hopes to get by the end of this session. The Grant Solar system was installed to provide hot water for all staff and pupils. It consisted of two Aurora collectors mounted on a south facing slate roof, using the on-roof arrangement. This fixing option is suitable for almost any roof type, on pitches ranging from 20º to 60º.
Steve Barron, Director of Housing and Property welcomed the school’s interest in energy saving. “I applaud the efforts of the children and congratulate them on taking responsibility for their environment,” he said.
