GRANT SOLAR PV IS HERE!
Grant UK has launched their next generation of renewable technology, Grant Solar PV, which utilises free energy from the sun to generate electricity.
With the installation of PV panels (or modules as they are more commonly known) on a south-facing roof, the system will not only supplement a dwellings electricity supply, but also satisfy current Building Regulations by providing at least 10% renewable energy.
Grant Solar PV relies on light (rather than radiation) to generate electricity through the use of polycrystalline photovoltaic cells within the modules. The modules are simple to install, as they fix to a roof in the same way as Grant Solar Thermal panels in an on-roof, in-roof and flat roof arrangement both landscape and portrait. However, instead of pipework, cables are used. The cables are connected to an inverter which converts the DC electicity produced to AC electricity (AC electricity comes from national grid) which is either consumed by the household or sold back to the national grid.
A 2kW Grant Solar PV System (approximately 16 panels) should produce around 1,600kWh of electricity per annum. To put this into perspective, 2kWh should run the lighting in an average household using low energy light bulbs for approximately one week.
By combining Grant Solar PV and Grant Solar Thermal, up to 25% of an average dwellings energy requirements can be met.
In addition to the energy saving benefits, installing Grant Solar PV can help reduce a homes carbon footprint, which in turn will lessen the devastating Greenhouse effects on the Earth’s climate. Every little can make a big difference!
