Property developer chooses Grant Biomass for new build
With any new build, how to heat it efficiently and effectively are a designer’s high priority and this was no more evident than on a fantastic new residence in Grimsby.
A large PV array was installed in the garden to provide sufficient power to the property and also take advantage of the Government FIT’s incentive (Feed in Tariff). For the heating and hot water a Grant Aerona ASHE 21.5kW heat pump was chosen. This supplied a large buffer cylinder which in turn fed the underfloor heating and the hot water cylinder. This was all controlled by a Grant Energy Management System.
The heat pumps output of 21.5kW has a CoP of 3.9 and to achieve this output and reduce running costs, the unit was designed with a larger evaporator surface area, increasing the volume of air flow through the unit. The fans run at low speeds and this coupled with the improved insulation has significantly reduced noise levels. This was vital as the property is surrounded by other dwellings and the low noise levels ensured the unit did not impact on those close by. This presented the perfect solution when linked with the PV array and complimenting the underfloor heating system. Due to the size of this building and to manage those times when more people were in the property, a Spira Wood pellet boiler was also installed. The Spira boiler is at present the only MCS registered condensing self-cleaning pellet boiler on the market with an incredible 97% efficiency, eligible for the RHI (renewable Heat Incentive). The unit is installed in the garage next to the control system and hot water cylinders and via a Grant sequence controller the Spira seamlessly integrates with the heating system giving Colin and his family total peace of mind.
Colin Goodwin is a resourceful and entrepreneurial property developer with a passion for innovative eco-friendly technologies. So as part of his next new build, Colin chose Grant Engineering as his choice of manufacturer. The range of products being installed by local installer Green Energy Solutions ensured that this achieved Colin’s goal of almost self- sufficient energy supply and being carbon neutral.
Colin undertook extensive research into which products would best fit the bill. “So many manufacturers are indeed specialists in their field but could only supply one product when a total solution was required but with Grant they could supply and design all that was needed” said Colin. Green Energy Solutions Ltd based in Doncaster were appointed contractor and Managing Director Marcus Payne said “We enjoyed working with Colin and were able to combine a multi-tier offering to achieve his aim of becoming carbon neutral along with very low running costs. Grant products are easy to install and offer efficiency levels rarely seen in the industry”.
Colin now lives in this house with his wife Jill, a local Headmistress and his daughter Isabella.
Colin added “Any project is important, especially when it’s your home. I chose Grant as it was immediately evident that the build quality, design and finish are to the high standard I require. Its early days to say just how much I will save in energy costs but my last quarterly electric bill was £92 which for the size of property is amazing”.
