19th century cottage now being heated by a Vortex Pro boiler
A cottage that was originally built in 1850 in a small Wiltshire village is now being kept warm by a Grant Vortex Pro 15-21kW kitchen/utility oil-fired boiler. Replacing an appliance that was over fifteen years old, the new Vortex now installed is providing reliable heating to the property, efficiently and sustainably.
G-One installer, Tony Hamilton of A H Plumbing & Heating Services, attended the property in the Autumn of last year after the homeowners noticed a fault with their original boiler. He identified a leak in the old oil pump which needed replacing. As the boiler was nearly two decades old, the required parts had since been modified which would have made replacing a like-for-like part a very costly process, both in components and labour charges. Furthermore the life of the original boiler was unknown, so the option of fitting a new boiler was discussed with the customer.
The Grant Vortex Pro Kitchen/Utility range comprises of models with heating outputs of between 15 to 70kW. With its award winning Vortex stainless steel condensing heat exchanger, turbulator baffle system and Grant’s latest internal condensate trap, this range of oil-fired boilers have incredibly high SAP 2009 gross seasonal efficiencies of between 90.7-93.3%.
It was decided that the replacement boiler would be fitted in the outside utility room of the cottage. The model chosen was a 15/21kW Pro which, at only 348mm wide, is specifically designed to fit directly into the small spaces where narrow older boilers were originally installed. The Vortex was delivered to site within 48 hours of ordering, along with a Grant White System EZ-Fit vertical balanced flue and Grant Mag One filter. With its 12000 gauss, 28mm chrome isolation valves with 22mm reducers, and clever design allowing for 360° installation, the Mag One is a universal magnetic filter that provides long lasting protection to the central heating system.
The installation was completed in December, providing the cottage with a highly efficient heating system that kept the property warm over the festive break and will continue to do so in the years to come.
Originally built in the mid-nineteenth century, this cottage has no doubt witnessed quite a transformation in the way that its rooms are kept warm. Probably starting out with a humble fireplace, the cottage is now kept cosy with Grant’s latest oil-fired boiler technology.
